Things You Need to Know When Selecting a Colocation Service Provider

Colocation can do wonders for your company, whether you engage in internet commerce or just need to store information. These are the things you need to know when choosing the right data centre for your business.

Choose one with a good internet network. You should ask the colocation provider the specifications of their internet network connection and other network details.

The data centre must feature state-of-the-art equipment. Fast connection is just one of the factors to consider. The facility must also include redundant UPS, redundant air-conditioning system, generator backed electrical power, full-time security, and on-site support.

Find out whether the colocation provider offers remote hands for free. Some facilities don’t charge for remote hands while others charge for it. Data centres that offer free remote hands often have more responsive technical personnel on duty 24/7.

Technical staff must be on-site all the time. The reliability and security of a colocation service will depend whether the facility has technical support personnel on-site all the time. Make sure you ask if they have on-site staff around the clock. That way they can assist you as soon as a problem arises.

Lastly, check how long the data centre has a good track record. Make sure that it is not a fly by night operation. A good colocation provider has been in business for at least ten years.
